January Updates!

Technology News Edition:  January 2013

            Mr. Crain-Davis has some exciting news to share for the month of January.  This month, Sabin will be gaining brand new technologies and bringing them to the classrooms for teachers and students to use.

In the upper grades math and science classrooms, 5^th – 8^th grade, along with in the technology lab, SMART boards are being delivered and will be installed mid-month.  These brand new boards will bring new levels of interactivity to the lessons in these classrooms.  These boards will allow not just for the teacher to deliver new content to the students, but will also allow the students to be engaged with new types of lessons.  These boards are multi-touch capable and can allow students to use a pen and/or their finger to interact with the board!

Mr. Crain-Davis is also going to be starting a new group outside of the regular school day for 7^th/8^th grade students to begin working with Samsung Galaxy Tablets and explore the capabilities of these new touchscreen technologies.  The group will be a project team that will use the tablets to create different products for the school.  The specific projects will be decided by the team.

January is an exciting month for technology.  Look for the new technology around the school!

Hello Students!
Today you will be signing up for an account through the educational social network called Edmodo.  After you have signed up for the account, you will be able to receive and submit assignments online.

Click on the button that says "I'm a Student"

Fill in the form the appears.  The group code that you need to join our class is vqij2j

After you have signed up for an account, you will be redirected to your page.  Find our class "Sabin Tech" and find your first assignment.  You should be submitting this assignment to me at the end of class today.

Dear Families,

Welcome back to school!  I am Mr. Crain-Davis and I am very excited to be joining Sabin Magnet School as your new technology teacher.  I am new to the school this year, but I am not new to the teaching profession.  Previously, I have worked in the Garfield Park, West Lawn, Uptown, and Englewood neighborhoods of Chicago teaching grades ranging from 4^th – 8^th grade.  I have a computer science and math background, both areas I feel will be beneficial this year.

Technology is a new auxiliary class being provided for the enrichment of the students at Sabin Magnet School.  In this course, we will be learning about the basic operations of computers, such as working with the hardware to run the computer, we will be looking at various software and applications to learn how to maximize efficiency when working with these programs, and we will be utilizing the web to develop projects and learn about the opportunities that the internet provides.
